The Sugar House Certification Program is a voluntary, fee-based program encompassing rules and standards for syrup production within the sugar house. Designed by the maple syrup industry but using third-party inspectors, the Sugar House Certification Program provides a defensible Good Management Practices (GMPs) review for Vermont’s maple syrup producers. Inspections are conducted by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets Consumer Protection Division.
Certification will be good for three years and costs $200 for VMSMA members and $300 for non-members. An additional fee will be charged to those producers who use lead-containing equipment in their operation.
Applications can be submitted online or by downloading and mailing in a completed form. Full instructions can be found here.
