The Vermont Maple Sugarmakers Association is pleased that you're interested in teaching your students about maple sugaring and we have several tools to make that easier.



Vermont AITC K-8 Standards-Based Maple Unit.

maple unitThanks to a grant from the Vermont Maple Foundation, Vermont Agriculture in the Classroom has published a K-8 standards-based unit on “Maple Sugaring in Vermont”. This unit is divided into two sections, Grades K-4 and Grades 5-8. Every activity in each section is aligned to the Vermont Framework of Standards and corresponds with the 4-H Life Skills. The unit is designed so that educators can pick and choose specific activities or they can teach the entire unit over the course of a few months.


You can download the entire curriculum, free of charge, from the AITC website (http://www.vt-aitc.org/pdfs/full-Maple-Unit.pdf). You can print the entire book which is 159 pages, or pick and choose and activity or two. Or, you can request a printed copy, for a $5 mailing fee for unbound and $10 for bound, from the Vermont Farm Bureau, 802-434-5646, 2083 East Main Street, Richmond, VT 05477.

vermont maplePure Vermont Maple: A Proud Tradition: "Voices from the Sugarwoods" is the colorful story of the Green Mountain State's famed maple syrup, told by sugarmakers who work in the woods and sugarhouses to produce the delicacy that is the official flavor of Vermont. Cost is $19.95 plus $4.00 for shipping, total $23.95.
