Join us for a noontime webinar to learn more about organic certification. This webinar is geared toward any organic-curious or transitioning producer/grower/farmer – veg, berry, other crops (hay, grain), flowers, maple, livestock, dairy - as well as processors, handlers, technical service providers, etc.

After a short introduction with background on the National Organic Program and values-based certification, three producers in Vermont (vegetable, maple, and dairy) will share about why they choose to certify.

One of the most important parts of the certification process is recordkeeping - documenting your organic practices and systems. One of the most common questions is, “but what does good recordkeeping look like?” Learn about recordkeeping basics, templates, checklists, and hear from each of the guest farmers about what works best for their business and satisfies organic requirements. Understand what to expect at the inspection and “meet” some Vermont inspectors. Lastly, we’ll discuss organic markets, what consumers want, and what the future might hold for organic products.

While it’s not possible to cover all aspects of organic certification in a short time period, we hope to give you enough information to set some goals or even feel confident to start the organic application. Please bring your questions for the Q & A portion.

Presenters:

Nicole Dehne, VOF Director
Eli Hersch, Honeyfield Farm
Matt Landi, Vermont Way Foods
Zea Luce, NOFA-VT Organic Practices Specialist
Rhonda Miller, Molly Brook Farm
Matt Paggi, Barred Woods Maple
