Vermont Evaporator Company and Main Street Middle School
The Vermont Evaporator Company is situated in an old granite shed in downtown Montpelier. Beneath the old cranes that carried rock to and fro generations ago, we manufacture backyard sap evaporators like our flagship product, the "Sapling!" We are generally open from 7:00 am-3:00 pm weekdays Fall through Spring, and you are always welcome to stop by for a tour.
Since 2023, Montpelier's Main Street Middle School's Sustainability Program has been making maple syrup in collaboration with Vermont Evaporator Company owners Justin McCabe and Kate Whelley McCabe and local sugar maker Kris Hammer.

Open House Activities
Learn how to make your own maple syrup on a super-small scale with experts from Vermont Evaporator Company (www.vermontevaporator.com) and students from Main Street Middle School’s Maple Program. Enjoy free snacks, beverages, and stories as you experience the sugaring process firsthand.

Open House Directions
Follow the steam about ½ mile up Gould Hill Rd and park at the top of the driveway. Look for a dark gray home and big barn with a sugarhouse in the distance—walk down the driveway to the sugarhouse.
