2024 Governor's Tree Tapping

Governor Phil Scott Visits Buck Family Maple for 2024 Tree Tapping

WASHINGTON —March means maple for many in our region, and Vermont is already off to a sweet start.

The USDA announced that the Green Mountain State is once again the number one maple syrup producer in the country.

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott kicked off the season on Monday at Buck Family Maple Farm in Washington.

"This land that we're tapping now has been tapped for almost 200 years by families before us, and we hope that it can be tapped 200 more years beyond us," said John Buck, owner of Buck Family Maple. "That's the goal; it's our job and our duty, our responsibility not to take care of the forest."

Sugaring is a tradition celebrated both in Vermont's culture and its economy.
