What Is Our Sugarhouse Certification Program?
While the FDA has designated maple syrup as a "low risk food", Vermont's producers go above and beyond to make sure that they are making the highest quality products. Part of our quality promise to consumers is ensuring adherence to a long list of food safety regulations and best practices. Sugar makers who certify through VMSMA's Sugarhouse Certification Program have met the highest standards for food safety, which includes a review of all documentation, equipment, and processes as well as an onsite visit to production facilities, the sugarhouse and areas in the woods.
We are just starting to offer Vermont producers ways to share their Certified status with consumers. You can look for a "Certified" logo on their containers or ask them if they participate in our Program. You can also find Certified Producers on our map.
